Of wings

You stand at the edge of the field
Like an eagle inhaling the moment
Of dewdrops in the winter darkness

Under your feet, a garden grows
Shrubs, vines and flowers  stretching
With each footfall, sure of their direction

Above your sky, a magnificent castle rises
Turrets strike out gold, silver and copper lights
With each spire, an architect’s dream becomes true

Before you, a forest speaks your language.
The moon tide is calling.  A flare leaps like a
Signal from a distant mountain top.

Close your eyes and fall.

  5. So true that we have to follow the flow, trust and fall. A vivid exploration of the inner voice and a wonderful reminder of the process. Thanks so much for joining us!

  14. Really, Grace... this is amazing. I love the free-fall metaphor... we do have to take that leap of faith as writers & go where our flow takes us, don't we?

  26. Sometimes I can feel the grasses and the bark of trees underneath my talons when in my previous life as an Eagle, I perched when not soaring, scoping the wonder of my home dressed in Nature's colors being shared by others.

I tilt my head with my white feathered crown looking down and plead: please take care of our home, let me play in my azure sky and fish in the pristine clear waters.

    Gracias

When the New Year came in, to make her nest
So did a bird of prey to our poor chicken coup
Pecking to death one bird and leaving the rest
infected with mites that brought itch
    into our house.

Your beautiful poem inspired my biographic note,
where nature was not so beautiful.
But your words are relieving and lifting -- a nice escape.

BTW, I could not tell who "You" is in this poem.
"You" is like an eagle, standing on a garden, looking into the sky before a forest.
Is it the reader? Is it another bird's wing? If so, watch out for the eagles and the hawks! :-)

  29. Your last line is a stunner! It reminds me so much of how I became a poet; it wasn't something I chose, rather something I fell into.

  31. This felt like part of my process... absorb the wonders of the natural world, imagine them into new incarnations, and then write about it. Terrific imagery, here, Grace.

We often see dreams develop right in front of our eyes but we unfortunately ignore its goodness. That's how I read this. Nicely Grace!
